In 2021 Southport State High School has introduced a new and exciting approach to student leadership.
Students in every year level have the opportunity, by way of an application process, to become a leader in one of our four ‘Pillars’; Academic, Community, Culture and Sport.
This innovative approach to student leadership enables successful student leaders to have a more specialised role in our school and to demonstrate their capabilities in a far more meaningful manner that reflects their personal interests and strengths.
Built into the actions and outcomes that each pillar undertakes there will be the opportunity for all students to achieve house points for their respective house. This slightly competitive approach enables house points to be obtained through participation in the many events, fundraisers and other activities that the students themselves organise and oversee. In every case our school’s TORO values are embedded into the events and this substantially enhances the link between our school’s values and student leadership.
Our expectations regarding the conduct of our leaders is detailed below;
1. Assist with and conduct school assemblies
2. Act as role models for all students – including uniform, attendance, enthusiasm, responsibility and dedication to upholding TORO values.
3. Actively promote and participate in all pillar and whole school sporting events.
4. Communicate with students, staff and the wider community to promote initiatives of the school and their respective pillar.
5. Meet regularly with respective pillar groups.
