Flying Start Pilot

Flying Start Pilot School

Southport State High School is a Flying Start Pilot School. This means we hosted our first group of Year 7 students in the secondary school setting in 2013. Labrador State School, Musgrave Hill State School and Southport State School are our Partner Primary Schools in this initiative.

There is an opportunity for current Year 7 students to join us at Southport State High School in 2014.  All students in Year 7 2015 will be required to attend Secondary School Campuses.

Our school has a proud tradition of being a supportive and caring community that delivers outstanding educational training and opportunities for all students. At Southport State High School we strive constantly to create a relational environment in which a commitment to personal excellence flourishes. We develop and foster leadership and personal growth to complement the academic, artistic, technical and sporting opportunities that our school provides.

Our engaging curriculum and dedicated staff have created a teaching and learning environment where each student is not only be supported to achieve the highest levels of success of which they are capable, but is also be encouraged to be responsible, thoughtful, honest, respectful and confident.

As part of the Flying Start Pilot, Southport State High School will further strengthen our partnerships with our local primary schools and this will remain an important focus though out the two year trial (2013 ~ 2014). We will work closely with our Partner Primary Schools and other Feeder Primary Schools to develop pastoral care and curriculum programs that will support Year 7 and Year 8 students through their transition to high school.

At Southport State High School we believe positive relationships between parents, students and teachers is the foundation of a supported learning environment that builds respect and allows students to be happy, to care about others, and to expect greatness of themselves and lead to well grounded and balanced lives.
