Southport State High Athletics Carnival

Venue: Griffith University Athletics Centre

Directions: University Drive

Date: Friday 29th July

Time: All students must be at the Griffith University Athletics Centre by 8.45am for Roll Marking. If students arrive prior to 8:45 they are to wait in the grandstands. At 8:45 students will be directed to move to their year level area in the centre of the athletics track for roll mark. See maps in Sports Centre. Students will be dismissed from the venue at 2.45pm.
Students who arrive late must have a signed parental permission note and report to one of the Deans located at the top of the grandstand.

Food: Students are able to take their own lunch or buy food at the venue.

Transport: It is preferred that students make their own way to and from the venue.
Please be mindful it is peak traffic time around the university and hospital of a morning. Please allow extra time for drop offs due to traffic and be strategic about drop off locations.
If students are unable to do this, 2 x shuttle buses will be running from school to the venue at a cost of $6 per student.
These students will also return to school on the bus in the afternoon.
Students will need to pay $6 to the school’s payments window by Monday 25th July to secure a place on a bus.

Bus Shuttles:
Departing SSHS | Shuttle 1 | 8:10am
Departing SSHS | Shuttle 2 | 8:30am

Departing Griffith Uni | Shuttle 1 | 2:20pm
Departing Griffith Uni | Shuttle 2 | 2:45pm

Expectations: The Athletics Carnival is a whole school activity and all students are expected to attend and be involved in some way. All staff will be involved in running the Athletics Carnival and no provision has been made for supervising students at school. Whilst the focus of any Athletics Carnival is to see who is the best our carnival has a very strong focus on just participating. Any student who participates in an event will get points for their house.

Uniform: Students can dress in house colours - red, green, blue or yellow or wear their school sports uniform. It is NOT a free dress day and students inappropriately attired will be sent home to change.

We look forward to seeing you son/daughter there, supporting their House.

Yours Sincerely,

Nicola Borgatti
Sports Co-Ordinator
