Ski Trip to Mt Hutt

Ready to hit the slopes
Ski Trip 2011
If ever the gods were smiling on a group of people wanting to travel overseas it was us. So many factors were conspiring to make our annual ski trip to New Zealand a ‘failure’ this year and yet we ended up having the best trip ever.
We were on the only plane to fly out of Coolangatta airport and go to New Zealand on Sunday 26th June. We were the first school ‘up the mountain’ on the Monday morning (the first day Mt Hutt opened for the season) and even ended up being interviewed by the New Zealand media, because we were so important. We got lots of snow, thirty centimeters in one night, and rode the slopes all day every day in uncrowded conditions. On our ‘down’ day we somehow ended up at The Antarctic Centre and were given free rides and presentations that we weren’t meant to get (a slight mix up in emails on someone’s behalf).  Basically, everything went well from an organisational point of view.
The students were fantastic, always very keen to be pleasantly dragged out of their slumber at 6am by a gentle ‘knock’ on their respective doors, always keen to be constantly asked “helmet, gloves, boots and ticket”, always keen to avoid the medical centre, always keen to eat whatever was offered and always keen to go quietly to sleep when asked. Thanks guys you were great.
A huge thank you to Mr Lappi, Miss Ware and Miss Wilmot as they were the perfect colleagues to travel with and I am certain that the students thought so too. And the good news, planning for the 2012 trip will start very soon.
