Securing social network

11/11/2013
As a service to parents we are providing a link to a website to help families understand and manage the privacy settings of social network profiles. Young people often misunderstand the ongoing and potential legal implications of revealing private information in their online profiles, photo albums, status updates and comments.
ThinkUKnow has published information on how to have fun online, how to stay in control and how to report when things go wrong. An important part of all this is to be informed. ThinkUKnow offers guides for parents, carers and teachers on how to help young people stay safe online.
ThinkUKnow is a joint initiative of the United Kingdom Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre and the Australian Federal Police (AFP). These organisations are partners in the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) and it is through this relationship that ThinkUKnow could be brought to Australia. ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the AFP and Microsoft Australia. It is also supported by ninemsn and DATACOM.
Click on “ThinkUKnow” to view their How-To guides relating to social network identity and activities. Parents are urged to visit this site and become familiar with the advice offered and to share it with their children.
