Community Art Project

The Visual Art department at Southport State High School has been given the opportunity to be involved in a Community Art Project at Musgrave Hill Bowls Club. This project includes the creation of a mural along Kumbari Avenue, in Southport. The mural is quite significant at approximately 18m x 3m.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students as they will learn specific skills related to public art and dealing with the issues related to community needs and responses. Students will have their work exposed to potentially thousands of community members. The aim is for students to gain real life skills that can be applied to their own art folios.
The mural itself will take quite a few hours over many weeks to complete. If you are in the area, take a drive by and see how the image evolves.
The students who have been chosen to participate in this community art project are Bianca Bronson, Marina Carter, Natasha Dunn, Anneke Hogerhuis, Shalina Kreideman, Jessica Messer, Paige Powlton, Marko Slomovic, Zinita Smith, Samuel Train and TJ Wells.
These students will be guided through the project by Miss Lauren O’Toole, Ms Deb Bench and Mr Pete Fadner (who designed the image).
Congratulations to all involved in this project. We look forward to seeing how it evolves.
