Welcome to Southport High School ‘On Line’ - your window to a centre for secondary education that is focused on Personal Excellence.

Could you get excited about a school where you are sure your child will do the best they can do?

Can you see the value of a wide and varied range of options and choices? These include not only a full range of traditional academic pathways but also a wide assortment of highly innovative modules of study in the lower school and vocational and interest options in the Senior School.

Do you know what students and parents are saying about our FutureShape Leaders program? They tell us that this ground-breaking program helps young people think for themselves, become independent from peer pressure and aspire to high levels of personal excellence.

Doesn’t it make sense to send your child to a school where there are discipline processes that allow students to learn without disruption in the classroom? Our careful use of the Responsible Thinking Process enables teachers to remove the causes of disruption from the classroom, while teaching all students that the basis for citizenship is responsible personal choice.

How important would it be for you to be sure that our teachers use exceptional Teaching and Learning practices within every area of study? At Southport High we understand how important it is that all students are genuinely engaged in their own learning. For example, our Middle School program in year 8 accentuates the styles of learning which offer the best transition from Primary School. And in our Senior School, our teachers build learning relationships which reach out to the needs of young adults.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your child was supported by a network of support and guidance structures that is second to none? At Southport High, we provide that network. Led by our Guidance Counsellor, it includes 5 Heads of Year, the Behaviour Support Teacher, our Youth Support Worker, the Heads of Middle and Senior School, a 'Pathways' Officer, the Chaplain, our School Nurse and Community Counsellor. Both teachers and senior students act in mentor roles for students and we provide a number of programs to support students through difficult times.

Do you see the benefit of a school that is willing to be flexible and creative in catering for the needs of individuals? We offer a range of special arrangements that are only limited by our creativity in finding solutions, never by our willingness to do so. Acceleration to other year levels, the support of mentors, out-of-school experience programs and programs at Griffith University are all examples of these flexible arrangements.

Isn’t it reassuring to learn that this is a school with a strong focus on values? We believe that not only should our students be encouraged to achieve academic success, but also to be great citizens. We structure our school so that our young people learn the skills and responsibilities of leadership and have opportunities to practise these. We value equity, respect for difference and alternative cultures, but we expect and demand high levels of personal responsibility. We want our students to be happy, to care about others, to expect greatness of themselves and to lead well grounded and balanced lives.

Do you feel that you deserve the peace of mind of knowing that your child is in the hands of a Principal and Staff who have these priorities?

Welcome to Southport High and to a school culture in which every student can thrive and excel.
