Business & Information Technology Faculty
In the Business and Information Technology faculty students can choose a combination of subjects that suit their interests and abilities. There are no pre-requisites for studying these subjects although we do recommend taking one or more junior subjects (years 8, 9, 10) for those students considering working in Business and IT jobs after completing school.

Accounting
The study of accounting provides, not only a foundation in the discipline of accounting, preparing students for further education, training and employment, but also an understanding of the processes involved in using accounting information to make effective decisions. The skills and attitudes gained in this course will prepare students for a variety of entry points to employment, in both employee and employer roles, as well as preparing them for continuing study at tertiary level.
Business and Technology
Business and Technology gives students the opportunity to develop an awareness of business within the home, school, local, national and global communities. They develop knowledge, practices and skills to critically analyse business situations, confidently meet their own and others needs and wants, capitalise on business opportunities, make informed decisions, and participate responsibly in business situations. Students will be presented with a range of challenging situations requiring them to analyse the problem and devise possible solutions.
Business Communication & Technologies
Business Communication & Technologies is designed to equip students with the ability to communicate effectively and to interact confidently through and within a business environment and to use a range of business information and technologies relevant to both the private and public administration concepts, in analysing and evaluating recommendations in a range of business-related situations and in handling a variety of business transactions. They are also critical to developing the effective workteam, personal and interpersonal communication skills essential for good staff and customer relations, and, ultimately, the successful operation of a business.
Business Studies
Business, as an area of study, helps to develop students’ understanding of business and retail procedures and the environments in which business and retail organisations operate. It also provides students with a range of personal and interpersonal skills with general application to personal and work life, as well as specific knowledge and skills related to employment within the business services, and wholesale and retail industries. As many students aspire to careers in a variety of small business, retail and clerical/administrative situations, the program of study enables students to respond to the ever-changing nature of business technologies, to perform a variety of tasks, to communicate effectively, to operate efficiently in a business, and to relate appropriately to other people.
Information & Communications Technology
Information & Communications Technology is concerned with using information and communications technologies (ICTs) to provide practical solutions to real life or simulated real-life problems. Its student-centred approach promotes confident, competent and self- motivated users and consumers of ICTs. This is important if students are to be successful in the next phase of their life, whether it is to pursue a career with ICTs, undertake further study, or gain employment. Students should also be able to keep pace with new technologies and be responsible users of ICTs, aware of the social, environmental and legal impacts of their actions.
Information Processing & Technology
Information technology refers to the creation, manipulation, storage, retrieval and communication of information and to the range of technological devices and systems used to perform these functions. The course of study emphasises problem identification and solution rather than the use of specific applications. It is an intellectual discipline that involves a study of information and intelligent systems, software and system engineering, human–computer interaction, and the social and ethical issues associated with the use of information technology.
Robotics
Robotics is an interesting and challenging area of study. The aim of this subject is to provide students with basic skills and abilities in working with and designing robots to perform a number of tasks. Students will also have fun while engaging in this work and should also develop an understanding and appreciation of the social considerations and impacts robots have on society. This subject is problem based, with students exploring a range of possible solutions to given challenges. Students generally work in small teams in this subject.
